Most Internet Service Providers only offer a Frame Relay Circuit from your location to their local location. A Frame Relay Circuit only has a Committed Information Rate (CIR), from your telephone company, that is half of the circuit speed that you order. So when you order a full 1.5M T1 Frame Relay Circuit, your telephone company may on occassion burst your speed to 1.5M but is only committed to providing half of that speed or 768K.

To increase profit, most Internet Service Providers consolidate your Frame Relay Internet traffic with all of their other customers traffic onto a single (or at most a couple) Data Circuit(s) from their local location to the Internet. This works well when total demand for bandwidth is low. If their customers require too much bandwidth or if they consolidate too many customers for each one circuit to the Internet, the service will be slow.  When CrossLink provides Frame Relay circuits we charge a little more than many of our competitors so that we can provide adequate bandwidth to meet all of our Frame Relay Customers requirements.

The closest Internet Access Point for locations in the Mid Atlantic is in Virginia. To save money, many Internet Service Providers use national data networks that send your data to a hub in some other area of the country. This saves money but dramatically increases the time and the number of routers (hops) your data must go though to get to and from the Internet  To provide the best service your Internet traffic should use an Internet Access Point close to your location.

While many competitors provide a reasonable price quote, they often add on port charges, loop charges, mileage charges, extra Internet fees, taxes and other hidden fees to the cost of installation and/or to your monthly recurring bill.  Often these additional charges are lost in the fine print of the agreement and add hundreds of dollars to installationn and as much as 20% to your monthly bill.
