***** Verizon points out the substantial advantages of Static IP addresses on the Verizon Business DSL web site. "A Static IP address allows you to identify your business connection on the Internet with an IP address that is always reserved for you. Having a Static IP address means you can host your own Web site, your own e-mail server, a file server for customer access or even conduct e-commerce - all from your own location without having to pay a hosting company. Static IP addressing opens the door to more secure access to your LAN for traveling and telecommuting employees through a virtual private network (not included). A Static IP address can be used for applications such as online payments/invoices, scheduling for external customers, e-mail/messaging, Web conferencing, inventory tracking and management, payroll/timesheets and lead generation."
